Subject: Airplane Plot
Hi, Buzz --
Isn't it a good thing Britain wasn't waiting for Chertoff and the security boys here to sound the airline plot alarm? On Wednesday Bush is out on his bike in Crawford, Texas circling around the U.S.A. press idiots. Urging them on in 100 degree heat to run three miles. For a tee shirt and a photo with him. Offering "playful taunts and encouragement" according to the L.A. Times. Isn't Bush known to diddle around in August? Funny. If anything big were to happen the press boys would be in the throes of heat stroke.

Subject: UK Terror Plot
It is amazing how quickly the Bush administration circulates its buzz words/buzz phrases for the day among its talking empty heads.
Today it is "suggestive of al-Qaeda"; a couple of days ago it was "middle-east birth pangs" followed by "opportunity."
The alleged terrorist plot also distracts from the BP Alaskan pipeline fiasco. As someone who was in the middle of oilfields the first 40 years of my life, I find it unthinkable that BP would have neglected maintenance of the line for the lengthy time disclosed - fifteen years, I think it was. Normally, such pipelines are periodically "pigged" to clean out and locate potential failures of the lines.
Subject: Hamad Karzai
To the Buzzer who was discussing the fact that Karzai was stepping down? He was an employee of, and a good friend of the Bushes...and was employed at one time by the Carlyle Group...big employee of the Father Bush. There must be pictures of little Georgie holding his hand, too. Good Grief...Michael Moore told us all about that...more people need to be watching "Fahrenheit 911" now...likely never watched it because of the lashing they got when they did...everyone I know, when this is mentioned...look at me like I am the child of Satan!!
And, to all of you who think the timing of the silly "terrast" threat was curious...it is...read what Buzz tells us in one of the letters today....it was planned as a practice...and it hit this country at just the right time, with Bushies favorite, kissy face, democrat losing his hold..Oh well!

Subject: Read Your Book Joe
Now that Joe has lost the primary and thrown a temper tantrum, he might want to read his own book titled "In Praise of Public Life," that was published in 2000.
In Lieberman's book, you will find the following quote from Joe about elections:
Losing a political election is a very painful, emotional experience, in part because it is so visible and in part because we politicians are so competitive. Like a professional athlete whose success or failure is witnessed by a crowd of spectators, a politician 'performs,' if you will, in public. Unlike an athlete, however, his success or failure is directly determined by the audience. They don't just boo or cheer. They vote you in or out. We candidates are, after all, seeking their approval. If it is denied, that is clear and it hurts. You can't help taking it personally.
Hang it up Joe. You were defeated by a great candidate who stuck to the issues.

Subject: Terrorism Plot, My A**
Tuesday: Bush's favorite "Democrat", Joe Lieberman, is defeated. Bad political mojo for the Chimp.
Thursday: The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Be afraid! Be very afraid!
(N.B.: News reports are almost devoid of specifics: What are the names, ages and cities of residence of the plotters? Where were they arrested? How far along was their plot? Is Jergens Lotion a weapon of mass destruction?)
And right on cue, there's the Chimp on national TV telling us that the furriners hate us and our way of life (as if anyone hates our way of life more than the Chimp).
As Big Daddy says in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," I can't help but notice the powerful and noxious odor of mendacity.
Subject: Cleaning House -- or Senate -- Is a Work Never Finished
If you are a Democrat or at the very least a non-neocon, do yourself a tremendous favor: Read “Day of reckoning for US warmongers” by Jim Lobe in “Asia Times,” August 11, 2006.
Afterwards, ask yourself how strange it is that people like former president Bill Clinton and Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-New York), Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut), Harry Reid (D-Nevada), Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska), Tom Carper (D-Delaware), Ken Salazar (D-Colorado) and Mark Pryor (D-Arkansas) would rush to heap their praise and support upon Joe Lieberman. Even more astonishing, the last four of these continue to this day pledging their loyal support -- in the very face of Ned Lamont’s clear-cut Democratic victory.
Subject: Terror Alert
I am very very afraid! We have people in caves trying to kill us with liquid bombs, and after almost five years and billions of dollars, the people who protect us only first realize that this might be a problem. Perhaps searching for box cutters and nail files wasn't enough. Homeland Security searched for nail clippers and pocket knives after a disaster, then with the help of the terrorists we discovered shoe bombs, now liquids. How come the response is always reactive? We should have figured out these threats and been searching for them five years ago.
Every time there is a Democratic victory there needs to be an immediate and well-publicized response of "Okay, Dick Cheney, this is your cue to gin up a terror plot."
Subject: The Art of Self Deception
Quite frankly, I am not too surprised by this. Think Faux news and the people who watch it. Do you think that only Cheney and his happy gang of powerful neo-cons watch that crap? You would be surprised how many otherwise intelligent (I know it sounds like an oxymoron, but believe me, I know a few) watch it and believe what's on there. There are people who thrive on fear and machismo, and Faux delivers that adequately. In a certain kind of way, America is threatened by Weapons of Mass Deception. In today's world, the single most precious commodity is not oil or gold - it's information and it's control. These so-called news channels control both. With CNN going down the tubes just like faux, it's just about impossible to get the news unless you're willing to make an effort. One can no longer plop down on the couch and turn the TV on and get news, coz what you're getting is drivel and propaganda.
Today, a person needs to be proactive in order to stay truly informed, and most people are just not interested. Watching whatever is on TV and cloaking oneself in self-deception is far easier. Moreover, there is a matter of culpability as well. A person pro the war has to admit to himself that he was wrong, and that he is in his own way responsible for the deaths of the American soldiers and Iraqi civilians. That makes the person answerable to every family that suffered a loss. Rather it's much easier to believe that Saddam was a threat, and that he did possess WMDs that ironically were given to him by Rummy. In no way does this abdicate the press, rather it is a chilling reflection of their bias and lies.
Only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government. -- Hugo Black, Supreme Court Justice
We don't have a free press anymore, at least not the MSM in any case. They are beholden to corporations whose only goal is profit, not truth. As far as news is concerned, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are the only ones that tell the truth anymore. It's a shame when one has to turn to comedians, albeit very talented ones at that, to learn what is going on.
Can you imagine anyone else that lost this race who would have upset the apple cart like this? Jeeeezzee.....the kiss picture is disgusting, and Joe is disgusting anyway. I hated it when the Clintons went to bat for him. I am beginning to not like even the people who wanted him...but Hillary this very morning said that she said she would back the democratic candidate...and she is sending a donation...and will campaign for Lamont. We'll see. Holy Cow...did anyone think that that little Twit...would bring on a Terrorist threat? Neither do I ... Both Cheney and Bush today...have implied that those who did not vote for him...were like terrorists...trouble is, they do not know any terrorists!...that is, except them! How many of us believe that there was really a terrorist alert today for real? Not me...I think it was just like I read first...a drill!

Subject: The Effects of Israel in Lebanon
Yesterday's paper included an article about Dang Thu Tram, a Vietnamese doctor who, during the war, lived in the countryside and treated Vietcong soldiers fighting the Americans. She wrote an extensive diary, recently discovered and now quite popular in Vietnam. We read of her loves and her suffering. She ran with soldiers, she fled with villagers, and raged against the American "pirates" that were destroying her nation. She died in an American assault on the central coastal district of Duc Pho, her diary at her side.
Those were the days, huh? An enemy that had the good taste to stay put and die, to submit meekly and poetically to the slaughter, and not, for one second, consider flying over here and paying us tit for tat.
They had every reason to. Today's paper reveals that American atrocities in Vietnam were far more extensive than the infamous My Lai massacre. Back then, information on such events was hard to come by. Unlike Abu Ghraib, there wasn't a computer full of photos brazenly cataloging the torture. But for whatever reason, the Vietcong never arrived on our shores to correct our misperception.
The Vietnamese reaction to our invasion set a very bad precedent in America's thinking. In short, we actually think we can get away with leveling entire nations. Today's paper also included an article about Israel's surprise at Hezbollah's strength. Yes, the Lebanese villages are fighting back. Fancy that. These are not rock-throwing Palestinian boys willing to exchange a few minutes' rage for years in Israeli detention centers. These are people who know very well the kind of extermination Israel and America have on their minds, and will respond accordingly.
Among my friends of Middle Eastern origin, there's been a recent change of attitude. Before the invasion, many were willing to just let the Israel thing go. What's done is done. No sense nursing the same grudge again and again. Got to move on sometime. But as Israel began its current course, all have returned to that familiar teeth-gritting rage. Some are old enough to remember Israel's destruction of Lebanon in the 1980s, and some only hear it from elders, but all understand that Israel has set out to destroy an innocent nation. You may or may not know that Israel regularly tells Lebanese villagers to flee, then bombs the passage out of town. The rest of the world knows, though.
Here's what else the rest of the world knows: Israel cannot undertake a military excursion like this without Washington's blessing. Most often, when Israel starts one of these, the sitting American President lets it go on a few days, then clears his throat, and troops return to their barracks. In that regard, Israel has no choice. They are the largest recipient of US military and economic aid in the world. If America were to cut off the pipeline and look the other way for a few weeks, Israel would cease to exist.
Thus, the world knows that America is allowing, if not encouraging, Israel's destruction of Lebanon. The world knows that the American public overwhelmingly supports the current course, even if it means thousands of civilian deaths and hundreds of thousands of refugees (as it did in the 80s).
The real question is, have Americans lost their minds? Do we really think we'll get away with such open belligerence against the entire Muslim world? What do we think we're doing? We've made enemies. Strong ones, angry ones, indeed, the wrong ones. Years from now, you won't be reading about some kindly Iraqi doctor going quietly to her grave as the Americans rain terror on her village. The epitaph will be quite different. It will be our own.
Subject: Israel Is More Than Suffering and War
In these days of terrorism and war, Israel is once again in the headlines, often shown in an unflattering light or even depicted as a brutal bully pushing around the 300 million Moslems who consider its very existence an insult to Islam.
You have probably seen most or all of the following material before, but perhaps it's time to think and write about it again:
The Middle East has been growing date palms for centuries. The average tree is about 18-20 feet tall and yields about 38 pounds of dates a year. Israeli date trees are now yielding 400 pounds/year and are short enough to be harvested from the ground or a short ladder.
Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world’s population, can lay claim to the following:
* The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel. * Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel. * The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel. * Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel. * The Pentium microprocessor in your computer was most likely made in Israel. * Voice mail technology was developed in Israel. * Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel. * The technology for the AOL Instant Messenger ICQ was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis. * Israel has the fourth largest air force in the world (after the U.S., Russia and China). In addition to a large variety of other aircraft, Israel’s air force has an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16’s. This is The largest fleet of F-16 aircraft outside of the U. S. * Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors' combined.
Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.
According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry’s most impenetrable flight security. US officials now look (finally) to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.
* Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world. * Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per10,000 people - as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed. * In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the U.S. (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech). * With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world -- apart from the Silicon Valley, U. S. * Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U. S. * Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies. * Israel has the highest average living standard in the Middle East. * The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK. * On a per capita basis, Israel has the largest number of biotech startups. * Twenty-four per cent of Israel’s workforce holds university degrees, ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland, and 12 per cent hold advanced degrees.
Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.
In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews (Operation Solomon) at risk in Ethiopia, to safety in Israel.
When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world’s second elected female leader in modern times.
When the U. S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day - and saved three victims from the rubble.
Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship -- and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 - in the world.
* Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity. (Hundreds of thousands from the former Soviet Union) * Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an international standard that certifies diamonds as “conflict free.” * Israel has the world’s second highest per capita of new books. * Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was achieved in an area considered mainly desert. * Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.
* Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer. * An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U. S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes. * Israel’s Given Imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, cancer and digestive disorders. * Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the camera and helps doctors diagnose heart’s mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors. * A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the Clear Light device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct - all without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.
Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions, Israel places first in this category as well.
An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California’s Mojave desert.
All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more per capita on its own protection than any other county on earth.
And the French ambassador in England said: "Israel is nothing but a sh***y little country.”

Subject: There Is Really Something Else Going on Here
From your article: 133,000 drivers' and pilots' records -- including Social Security numbers -- were stolen last month when a laptop from the Department of Transportation was taken from a government vehicle 8/11
I feel that these so called thefts that somehow involve a large amount of personal databases is more about the information than just getting a laptop.
Given this mis-administration's desire to control and know everything about everyone using any and all means legal and illegal to do so, it is an easy assumption that they are behind all this information harvesting.
It is more about total control and less about just a stolen piece of electronics.
It also has something to do with the bankruptcy law changes, bank spying and the IRS eliminating auditors for the rich while increasing auditors on lower income people.
It logically follows that with the identity theft crisis, changing bankruptcy laws that we may soon be victims of identity theft and stuck with the debt.
RETHUGlicans believe that people that have no money and little food focus less on a democratic government and more on staying alive. Those are the people that are very easily controlled.
Subject: Terrorists Plot
My daughter called me at about 1:30 am Thursday (we both are night owls) all upset ... and told me about the breaking news on her TV of the terrorists' airplane plots...and I immediately told her that it sounded like a Rove tactic because Lieberman (Bushie's PET GOAT) lost his election...I could not convince her of my beliefs...so I went back to my computer, which I was on at the time of her call and sat back down...and sure enough there was the article about said plot on Yahoo News...so I then immediately forwarded the article to you Buzz ... asking you if you thought this was our October surprise coming early...or was it for real?
Well your editorial on today's page proved just what I was thinking and saying..........The head "IDIOT" has called WOLF again...He has called wolf so many times ... that if the wolf ever does come ... we won't believe it. Already there are too many whys and whats about it...and it makes me sick to my stomach...every time I hear the Repugs say "We are fighting them over there, so we don't have to fight them over here."
Do any of you readers ever remember any terror threats to our country ... BEFORE Bushie started "HIS" war on Iraq? NO you sure don't....soooooooooo, it just shows you that because he started HIS war is why we are fighting ANY AND ALL terrorists at all..... Buzz I am so angry right now ... that if I were younger...I would be out there with all of the protesters and marchers...since I can't do that ... I now do ... and will continue to ... write letters and sign petitions ... and also continue to be one of your loyal readers.
[BuzzFlash Note: Of course, there was terrorism against the US before the occupation of Iraq. But there have been more threats publicly reported since then.]
Subject: August 6, 2001: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy
It was, almost, 60 years to the day, just four months short of another date that has lived in infamy, in United States history, December 7th, 1941.
But this date, August 6th, 2001, happened right here, on our domestic shores, in a small Texas town by the name of Crawford.
It was on that date, a hot, sweltering August morning that an “official presidential daily briefing” (PDB) came across the desk of President George W. Bush.
The title of this, particular, briefing was in BOLD TYPE at the top. It would be impossible NOT to see it. And, it read, “Bin Laden Determined To Strike Inside US.”
The ENTIRE memo focused on the possibility that there could be an, imminent, terrorist strike INSIDE the United States.
It has been speculated that Mister Bush did not read the memo, or if he did, he paid little head to it, for in his simplistic mind, it would not have been an easy chore for him to make an evaluation of something so complex.
National Security advisor, Condoleezza Rice, however, was, and still is, a very, very bright woman, highly capable of comprehending what the impact of such a memo might mean.
In fact, she testified to the 9/11 commission that both she, and Mister Bush, considered the memo to be nothing more than an “historical document” and that it was NOT considered a “warning.”
This was their conclusion even though the memo’s specific headline said that Bin Laden was DETERMINED to strike inside the US, and even went on to suggest that planes may be involved in hijackings.
George W. Bush was, as we know, on vacation, and little things like a possible attack on the United States by a terrorist group headed by a member of the Bin Laden family, a family that had close business ties with the Bush family for many, many years, well, that was not as important as, maybe going on a bike ride, or grilling a pig, or whatever else the vacation plan of the day was.
After all, this was his vacation and little problems like the security of the country that he swore to defend, well, that will just have to wait.
The rest, as we now know, is history, and we now stand at a crossroads, a crossroads that could mean not just that our great nation is bogged down in a quagmire of Mister Bush’s own making, but that we are on the edge, so to speak, on the verge of a global calamity, one that might destroy the entire planet on which we all live.
Yes, Mister Bush was not the perpetrator of those horrible attacks on September 11, 2001. He, himself, did not fly one of those planes into the WTC, or the Pentagon, and he, himself did not draw up the plans for the attack.
Yet, if he had any sort of an intelligent mind, and not one as simplistic as he possesses; if he had looked at those memos and realized what they meant; what would the repercussions of them might be, had he acted like a President of the United States should have acted? Who is to say that we might not have thwarted the attack, that 3,000 citizens would still be alive, that the invasion of Afghanistan would never have occurred, and the subsequent pullout of the troops there to go into Iraq to fulfill Mister Bush’s personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein?
Maybe if he had the intelligence to see what the full meaning of that memo was, if he actually took the time to read it, to absorb it, and to act on it, maybe the near 3,000 American soldiers and Marines would still be at home enjoying their children, their spouses, their friends.
Maybe the 20,000 Americans that have been maimed, injured, many for life, maybe they, too, would be home, preparing to lead a normal life.
And maybe, maybe the tens of thousands, perhaps more than a hundred thousand, innocent Iraqi men, women and children, maybe they, too, would be alive to live a fruitful, and long life.
But Mister Bush chose not to read, or at the least, not to act upon those words, those very, very strong words, in bold print, and at the top of the memo, “Bin Laden DETERMINED to Strike Inside the US.”
To me, and I am no expert, I am merely a novice, an American who loves his country, a veteran who gave 8 years of my life to my country, to me … DETERMINED would have brought my entire body to attention ... and I, as the President of the United States, I would have made sure, without one single doubt, to get more information IMMEDIATELY, and investigate it THOROUGHLY, not go bike riding or pig roasting, or whatever the hell they do in Crawford, Texas on a hot August day.
It would have taken only ONE DAY, or PART OF ONE DAY, out of a thirty day vacation to get some answers. Bush chose not to.
