His 42-year government career included service with the CIA, the State Department, the Defense Department and the US Army. His latest book was "Failure of Intelligence: The Decline and Fall of the CIA"; he is the author of the forthcoming "National Insecurity: The Threat of American Militarism" (City Lights Publisher, 2012).
