With the introduction of the Wisconsin state house bill to severely curtail the bargaining and other rights of public sector workers in the state, the long stealth attack on labor and the rights of working people in the US came to a head. The mobilization of tens of thousands of Wisconsin citizens in frequently-bitter weather to protest the bill, contest state supreme court and recall elections showed the rest of the country "what democracy looks like."
