Never Let Anybody Drive You So Low

Monday, 20 June 2011 08:46 By Matt Renner and Maya Schenwar, Truthout | Message

"We don't just fight against our opponents; this is a moral movement - we fight for them too."

-Van Jones at Netroots Nation 2011

This weekend, part of the Truthout team traveled to Minneapolis for the annual Netroots Nation conference.

Something truly inspirational happened - something we've been hoping to see for a long time.

Love warrior Van Jones took to the stage to challenge progressive journalists, bloggers and activists to help build a movement based not on party affiliation or on a charismatic leader, but instead, on the moral values we all share.

Jones's speech brought the crowd to its feet over and over again. He channeled the disappointment and the heartbreak so many on the left have been feeling, and laid out the dream of a truly different future - one we can build together.

We're writing today to tell you that Truthout will join this movement.

Our audience and our team of writers are growing in numbers and in strength. We will continue to bring information to the people who value honest reporting and analysis. We will cover the new, rising tide of American activism that started in Wisconsin and will continue to build as the plutocrats tighten their grip around the throat of democracy. And we'll bring our readers the ideas, information and inspiration they need to get involved.

Help us do this work and grow this movement. Help us sustain our budget and be as effective as we can possibly be. Watch this excerpt from Jones's speech and then help us be a part of his vision by making a tax-deductible contribution to Truthout today.
