35 Killed and Others Injured in Two Attacks North of Baghdad

Thirty-five people were killed and 28 others were wounded Tuesday in a twin explosion in Taji, a town 20 kilometers to the north of the Iraqi capital. Iraqi security forces said a parked car bomb detonated around 10 am near the government identity-cards office and local town council hall. The car explosion was followed a bomb detonation at the same place and time. The explosions took place during the peak hour when people come to the two buildings for official business. The speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Usama al-Nujaifi, condemned the attacks and urged security forces to do a better job of protecting the people in the wake of recent violence against government institutions. In a press release, al-Nujaifi demanded that security forces reveal the outcome of an investigation into previous attacks. © 2011 McClatchy-Tribune Information Services
