Subject: touching a nerve

Dear BuzzFlash:

I have received a couple of responses to my post the other day lamenting the overabundance of right wing fans here in NW Arkansas and the difficulty of putting up with these people on a daily basis. I'm glad I've illicited a response because frankly it's time somebody shared what the mentality of a given area can become when oversaturated with one-party ideology, evangelical mayhem and willful ignorance.

I'm not afraid to speak out, either online or in person, but I do have to be very cautious because I've found that the vast majority of GOP and Limbaugh fans here are extraordinarily thin skinned and can't tolerate any opposing point of view without becoming angry and confrontational. I always welcome a civil exchange of opinions and ideologies, but it's damned difficult in the Bible Belt where tolerance for alternate opinions is discouraged. I do not exxagerate in my descriptions. I just wish there was a way people would open their minds to other possibilities for their own sake, but you can't force an opinion on anybody.

This is really the rub; a Limbaugh Lemming will not discuss anything. They yell, get their facts wrong (gee, imagine that) and failing that path become insulting and belligerent. They try to force their idealogies down your throat without your asking for them and have little if any respect for dissension. I realize this area is a "pocket" for right wing lunacy due to its reclusive nature on the part of the working class, and the scads of money in Benton County, home of Wal-Mart, the enemy of worker's rights worldwide. It's sad, but I'm a firm believer in the 1st Amendment, and if we don't exercise it, we could easily end up losing it.

Subject: Blue dogs and Lieberman

I am angry with elected officials who pretend to be Democratic party people, when really hiding a neocon! Those are the Blue Dogs. Don't really care how nice they are, they are Republicans, hiding in sheeps clothing. They don't care how they win, winning is what they are all about, not for serving the people. My opinion! They have not proved me wrong yet!

Lieberman is one of the worse, not a blue dog but he will dance to any toon if it will get him what he wants. Lieberman is for Joe Lieberman. Whatever gets the Lieberman's touch, We the People Lose. Ask Al Gore, and Ned Lamont. Now he's after our Public Option. Remember him with John McCain? To be honest, John McCain had the double wammy there with the rogue Sarah in tow. He didn't know what hit him, poor John.

Why Harry Reid trusts him is what's baffling. Why Harry? Were you also lying about wanting the Public Option, because you knew you had Lieberman to bring PO down? Say it isn't so, and maybe you will be believed. At this point in time I doubt it!

Lieberman touch is all over the Public Option, so do not hold your breath for PO in the near future from him. He's out to make a name for himself, even it's a name we wouldn't say in public.

As for the blue dogs, forgetaboutit!

Subject: Obamacare

It is said by Single Payer (which Obama supported in 2003 and said he would support if he had a Dem House and Senate) is what we need. Activists say that Obamacare is nothing but a bailout to the insurance industry.

Single Payer activists say that Obamacare will force uninsured Americans to purchase health insurance -- whether they can afford it or not (remember when Obama criticized Hillary for this idea back in the primaries?)- from corporations designed to rip them off.

The so-called public option is half-baked -- whether opt out, opt in, triggered, linked to Medicare rates or not -- it will be an abject failure.

It won't control costs.

It won't cover everyone.

It won't stop the wave of medical bankruptcies.

It leaves the insurance corporations in the driver's seat.

And it will probably strengthen them by taking the sickest and most expensive patients off their hands.

I hate to say it, but they are right. Obamacare is not a solution. Single Payer is the only way.

Subject: Good to get away

Dear BuzzFlash:

It's a been a while since I wrote the Mailbag. My wife and I were on a trip to New England, Maine specifically this October and were lucky enough to visit Boston, Providence and Portland. It's truly beautiful country. This isn't a travelogue, though. Some readers may recall I hail from Northwest Arkansas, a real hotbed of hardcore right wing GOP insanity and evangelicalism. So much so I have become increasingly unhappier living here and once I retire, I'm outta here. For you see, in this Bible Belt stronghold, regionalism is extreme.

Most people do not travel, and except for your quick tourist bucks, after which you can leave quickly, thank you very much, they don't like outsiders. This will change in time as the world continues to infiltrate via the Internet and influx of people from other parts of the country and even the world. The change will be too slow for me to benefit being 48 already, so I will move on as soon as retirement allows.

I made a bet with my wife that during this trek, through which we went through 17 states all over the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard that with the exception of trucks, we wouldn't see one Arkansas license plate other than our own until we neared Memphis on the state line as we returned home. I won the bet. I find this sad, because travelling broadens our scope, increases our knowledge and teaches us that not everybody thinks the same about absolutely everything, a thought I'm pretty sure a large proportion of folks in this area have never entertained that thought.

It's willful ignorance, intolerance and hate that fuels this fire, and while I want to be sure to acknowledge there are good people who are not able to see our country because of economical or health reasons, there are lots who can but won't. Hence, I was relieved to see that in the Northeast, the Democrats are held in higher esteem, concern for everybody's welfare besides one's self and tolerance are much more prevalent. It's a great country, and I have learned that the stubborn South will have to join the rest of the nation soon or be left behind to continue to wallow in its own hate. It's not fair to those of us down here who do care, and there are plenty of us, because we get lumped in with the rest of the region thanks to the dominance of talk radio and FOX News, which you can't get away from anywhere.

So while the song remains the same here in NW Arkansas, I'm encouraged that the whole country isn't like what we Dems have to put up with here. Makes me think maybe there's still hope left, and that's possibly the best thing I brought back home with me.

Subject: Dithering Chickenhawks

Hey Cheney,

If LBJ and Nixon had done more "Dithering" on sending more and more troops to Vietnam, YOU would not have had to evade the draft four times; not to mention all your other Neocon Chicken Hawk Buddies you met yesterday!!!

And since YOU are so eager for more troops to get sent to their deaths, why don't you let President Obama have you shipped to "The Tip of The Spear" so you can make-up for all your AWOL military duty.

Have fun in those small hills over there - and bring an few extra pacemakers with you.

Oh, before you leave Dick; we'll need to have you write down all the things you got right about the terror attack, Iraq's WMD, etc. Here's a "Post-It" note to jot anything down anything you were right about.

Subject: Single Payer is alive and well and we are not going away.

Single Payer Action is still alive. Obamacare forces people to buy insurance from the very companies who have a track record of ripping them off. Baucus is funded by these companies. What is so hard about doing Single Payer? Obama supported the idea in '03. He also criticized Hillary during the primaries for suggesting that people be fined if they do not buy insurance. Why support the very idea he criticized. How would Obamacare reduce costs if people are now forced to buy insurance. The premiums will go even higher because of this force factor. Single Payer advocates are alive and well and we are not going away.

Subject: Single Payer Or Bust

"What about one or another of these so-called health care reform plans?

"None of which is capable of making good on health care for all."

"Why not?"

"Insurance company greed."

"But when such a system fails won't that be the time for us to push for a single payer system such as Medicare for all?"

"Except we'll have difficulty gatting people's attention then, what with rightwingers all over MSM screeming "told ya so, told ya so, government's the problem, not the solution, and the charge will stick."

"The answer being?"

"Mass uprisings in support of single payer."

"Who'll lead?"

"Everyone has to be a leader."

"Anything else?"

"There is no alternative."

Subject: Please stop denigrating other "progressive" sites.

In yet another of your slurs posing as a link, you put down yet again Huffington Post, while, of course, shining a more favorable light on BuzzFlash.

If there is but one thing I would change at BuzzFlash, it is your often juvenile ramblings in the statements that work as links to other sites. It's a bit immature.

Just post the link and leave it at that. And please eschew the cutting comments about other left-of-center Web sites.

That's all. Thank you.

Subject: Our President's advice...........

Our President has a very good advice for the wingnuts and all who are complaining about how to clean up America's mess left by the last adminisitration.

GET A MOP OR SHOVEL, IN OTHER WORDS help clean up the mess Bush/Cheney got us into, yes, they had the help of some weak-kneed Democratics.

quityourbitching!

All the work that's put into silly, teabagging protesting get busy, instead of using your dirty mouths (by the way that could use some cleaning too) use your elbow grease, grab a shovel, instead!

All that's being heard is yelling and screaming foul language, digging Hitler from the grave, but nothing that makes any sense at all.

Maybe if some of these rowdy people would quiet down and speak softly we may find out what they are trying to say. Acting like the Tazmanian Devils, doesn't help. Settle down, and maybe, just maybe we may get a nugget of something useful to use to clean up this mess we are in, and get out of this hole, we didn't ask for.

Heaven knows President Obama is doing his job.

A little civility would help, everyone!

Oh yes, a donation to BuzzFlash wouldn't hurt, either.
