Subject: reich prayer-cast

Hi, Buzz!!

I was amazed to see the right-wing "prayer-cast" on Rachel's show Thursday night. What surprised me most was the thought that I could pray for health-insurance reform in exactly the same words that the prayer-casters were using. Our usual measures - negotiation, compromise, etc. - clearly aren't working. We need direct intervention from God to get the Republicans' and DINOs' heads on straight and this reform done in a way that will benefit the largest number of people. I know that's not what they meant, but the words could be taken that way, and I hope God does take them that way.

The prayer-casters' generic "prayers" remind me of what Jesus said about hypocrites praying loudly at street corners so everyone would see them being pious. It was a show, designed to make them and their against-everything position look "Christian." Which reminds me of the third commandment: You must not make improper use of God's name.

If using God's name to promote a political position is not "improper," then I don't know the meaning of the word. Maybe I should ask Gretchen Carlson...?

Subject: GOP Obstructionism

The RNC is all aboard the Good Ship Lolli-GOP -- a ship of fools with no rudder, all captains and no sailors, shredded sails, dry rot, and still in dry dock.

At least they have cargo: Birthers, Tea-baggers, a quitter governor, Creationists, and a Noah's ark of science deniers.

But they know their top priorities: Delay health care even if it means starving the troops THEY sent on a fool's mission; and, of course, NO-TO-OBAMA.

Maybe the GO Pees stick together because they don't take baths, following the advice of their medieval medical advisors. Maybe swine flew over their cuckoo's nest?

Hey, any chance the Repubescents stole the "Work will set you free" sign from Auschwitz?

@ Stake: Fat Cat Special Interests Attack

Recently I received an email, entitled as above, from John Vogel of the DCCC, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he was raising an alarm: The Fat Cats were attacking "Health Care Reform"

My response below:

Sir:

Sorry, I have no money for narrow special interests this year, and that apparently includes the Democratic National Comm. and both Congressional campaigns.

But if you get Howard to ask nicely, I might reconsider… Not likely, huh…

Maybe Rahm can outbid the Republicans for the favors of the Corptocracy, but that’s not likely either… Or maybe that’s what this farce over health care reform is all about… But you’ve screwed the pooch, you can’t beat the Republicans at that ‘how low can you go’ limbo, they’re desperate and the Teabaggers have already demonstrated how agile they can be in serving their Corporate paymasters while beguiling the dissatisfied and the crazies with a kind of raw “populism” that Dick Nixon and George Wallace could identify at once…

I am a lifelong Democrat who is disgusted with all of you, except perhaps Rep. Grayson and my own Representative, who will continue to have my support in both real and financial terms. Imagine Grayson sitting where Bill Nelson is, Grayson for Senate!

I sure hope we can find ourselves soon; Obama seems to have lost his way and most of the Congress hasn’t the spine for the times. The electorate is split 4 ways, which hasn’t happened since 1860… The young will sit this one out and there will be hell to pay in 2010… The battle will be between the polar opposites, and I fear that the major parties will finish third and fourth. Progressives will not support the DLC approach; expect primary challenges to the so-called moderates and not just weak ones, either. And frankly the coalition that elected Obama is gone, shattered, perhaps forever, and I don’t see him generating the kind of enthusiasm in specific communities in 2012 that he relied on in 2008. And if he thinks the so-called Independent Voter will come to his rescue, well, by 2012 there will be very little political ground to be independent on, and less to run on… The Corptocracy must allow reform if it expects to survive, for though we progressives on the left are not especially friendly to Corporate Democrats, at least we’re not bat shit crazy… Imagine Michele Bachman as the leader of 75 or 100 members of Congress, with Jim DeMint riding herd on a couple of dozen Senators… And please don’t be surprised when the Country Club Republicans capitulate to the Tea Party to save their comfortable butts, dragging the conversation even further to the Right…

It’s time to show some guts, it is time to show our colors, without fear of offending someone with a big checkbook… Lead, follow or get the hell outta the way…

You cannot be all things to all people, you have to choose… Do you stand with the People, the people who will die, the some 150,000 of them who will die over the next two years, of “natural” causes (!), if real health care reform, with a robust public option or better, Medicare for all, does not pass and be implemented at once? Do you stand with the unemployed or is our Party “Up in the Air”, and ready to endorse the gutting of our economy and the unemployment of a generation…? That I have need to ask the question in the first place is evidence enough, don’t you think?

It’s time, the proof will be in the fundraising, mark my words, the little donations will dry up, you’ll be more than matched by an opposite “grassroots” effect by the Tea Party and the Corptocracy will split their ticket, if can you get the limbo low enough, maybe 60-40 in favor of the Right, but with no soul you’ll get not one damned dime from me.

So, as my offspring say, good luck with that…

Subject: P. M. Carpenter

I find Mr. Carpenter's comments on 12/18 offensive in the extreme.

It is true, Mr. Carpenter, that compromise is no fun. On this we agree, and though I am definitely among those on the left I am not above compromise. The problem comes when a position is so compromised that it effectively no longer exists. I would prefer a no-exceptions single-payer option. This was clearly, much to my dismay, not going to happen at this point in time. I was willing to support a mixed plan which included a public option, but that is the point beyond which compromise becomes unacceptable. That is where we are. There is no reason to support a healthcare bill that has become a subsidy to the criminal insurance companies.

I deeply resent being characterized as a bomb-thrower or tea-bagger. This is the kind of left-baiting I have become accustomed to from the Demagogic Losership Cabal. Are you one of them?

Subject: World Trade Center Relived

Tonight I watch the World Trade Center brought down by terrorists, on the History Channel. I hope everyone will relive that nightmare as I did tonight. Everyone says 9/11,but that's just a date. Watch again what happen on September eleven. It's a refresher, and reminder we all need. The horror of that day told in detail is enough to make a grown man cry. I felt the sorrow that I seemed to have blocked out on the day America and all the world really cried.

I asked why the war in Afghanistan was not properly brought to an end, and why Bin Laden is still nowhere to be found? What was the reason to leave, and invade another country that clearly had nothing to do with the deaths of so many Americans? Americans need this refresher to remember the reasons of not only the date 9/11, but why that job of bringing the murderers of that dreadful day to justice, not accomplished? Watch the Firemen, walk not knowingly to their deaths. Watch the Priest who lost his life that day, also. Why America has lost it's way under the power of an ego administration, and our troops were sent to another hell hole, a different country to die. After reliving the destruction of the World Trade Center, it made a believer out of me as to why President Obama, made the hard decision to go back to Afganistan.

God Bless America and God Bless President Obama who willingly took on the task that was not finished by the man before him. God Bless our Troops.

Subject: A Constiutional Convention Will Do It For Us

As per Article V which sets down the conditions, which, if met, authorize Congress to call a convention for proposing amendments, either on its own or on the application of the legislatures of two-thirds of the states. Granted that meeting these conditions will be a formidable task, albeit doable, if only we look upon Article V as an escape clause put in by the founding fathers as a sort of apologia for the uncertainty of what they were bestowing upon posterity. And now, a couple centuries & some later, standing as we are on the edge of the abyss, compliments of those same founding fathers, on account of their having begot us this rigged top down class-ridden system, irony of irony, we have a chance to take them up on what very well may have been a last minute insight on their part, on the order of "Oh my god, what the hell are we doing and will future generations ever forgive us?"

Subject: Did you read DEAR ABBY today?

DEAR ABBY: My wife and I are involved in a power struggle with my brother. At Christmas we invite him and his family to our home. We try to make our Christmas dinner fun and festive, so a lot of planning goes into the menu. Every year, a day or two before the event, my brother calls to ask what's on the menu, then offers his unwanted opinion on what we should or shouldn't serve.

Last year he told me he wouldn't be able to enjoy the meal because we weren't serving one of the items he feels is "traditional" in our family. He says he's family so he's entitled to make suggestions. When I was unwilling to accommodate his "simple" request, he got upset. I'm on the verge of not inviting his family in the future. Who is right? -- OFFENDED IN PENNSYLVANIA

DEAR OFFENDED: You are. Your brother may be family, but his behavior is childish and impolite. When he calls this year and starts the drill, if he tells you he doesn't think he will enjoy the meal if he can't dictate the menu, serve him a dose of reality. Tell him that your menu is already set and if he wants something in addition he can prepare it and bring it with him -- or make other plans.

If the letter writer hadn't signed off for Pennsylvania, I would have been sure his brother was Joe Lieberman.

Wish our elected Democrats could do as Abby advises.
