The Global Democratic Movement for Peace

Dear Readers

Dear Readers,

Democracy is on the march.

It started in Tunisia, spread to Egypt, and continues to gain momentum in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Algeria, Yemen, Jordan, Bahrain and even murmurs in Saudi Arabia.

Overnight, an army of Bahraini forces stormed the rally point where pro-democracy forces gathered. People who want to have a say in their governance were beaten, trampled and even shot dead in the street. The waves of change are in motion, but this struggle will never be easy – and it won’t be over anytime soon.

As the march continues overseas, Truthout is here to be a US voice for peace and democracy. We reject the corporate empire which plunders the land and oceans, exploits and poisons the people, and controls governments across the globe.

Our analyses of the ongoing international events from leaders like Ellen Brown, Stephen Zunes, Robert Naiman, Michael Winship and Noam Chomsky chart a clear path away from corporate empire and towards international democracy.

Help us continue to bring peaceful thinking to the political discussion. Together, Truthout and the people who read, share and support our work will be a part of this global healing. Only together can we let go of our fears and stand up for democracy.

Can you help us reach our fundraising goal and remain strong? We’re $31,000 away and we need your support.

Thank you for reading Truthout. Before you leave, we must appeal for your support.

Truthout is unlike most news publications; we’re nonprofit, independent, and free of corporate funding. Because of this, we can publish the boldly honest journalism you see from us – stories about and by grassroots activists, reports from the frontlines of social movements, and unapologetic critiques of the systemic forces that shape all of our lives.

Monied interests prevent other publications from confronting the worst injustices in our world. But Truthout remains a haven for transformative journalism in pursuit of justice.

We simply cannot do this without support from our readers. At this time, we’re appealing to add 50 monthly donors in the next 2 days. If you can, please make a tax-deductible one-time or monthly gift today.
